About Kendallville RC Park

The Kendallville RC Park is a family oriented RC facility established by Fred and Kristina Strauss. This business initially began as an auction-centered venture when Fred sought an engaging activity to occupy his time after retiring. He became an auctioneer just before his retirement from a long, successful career with Harris Corporation, formerly ITT. Fred dedicated many years to a demanding managerial position as an Engineer, contributing to satellite projects for NASA. His impressive achievements during this time were coupled with the high stress of the role, leading him to desire a new path that allowed for more enjoyment of his passions while spending time with family and friends in a family oriented environment.

Kristina Strauss has played a vital role in their first business, FNK Designs, where her background in computer science enabled her to manage all software and IT services. FNK Designs focuses primarily on embroidery and hand-press decal apparel and accessories and continues to thrive today, with some products available at the Kendallville RC Park's on-site location.

Years after FNK Designs, Fred and Kristina launched Busy Beaver Lumber. Even while Fred worked full-time at Harris Corporation and Kristina focused on FNK Designs, the couple dedicated their spare time to developing Busy Beaver Lumber. They invested in a sawmill to cut their own wood, creating bundles for various businesses, and later expanded to crafting woodworking items like ice cream scoops, pizza cutters, cutting boards, duck calls, and more. This business remains operational and actively participates in fairs and festivals, including the well-known Johnny Appleseed festival, with many products available on-site at the Kendallville RC Park.

At the inception of KVRC, the focus was not on RC vehicles at all. Fred and Kristina began with auctions after Fred received his auctioneer's license. They later acquired property in Kendallville, IN, initially intended as an auction building. As they cleared land for Busy Beaver Lumber, Fred envisioned utilizing the newly available space for his passion for RC vehicles. Over time, the family has passionately developed this idea, creating new courses and stocking more inventory for RC vehicles. The auction component of the business still exists, offering a diverse range of products, including all RC products highlighted on this website, alongside antiques, toys, household items, and more.

This family-run business now sees daughter Ashley taking on a significant role alongside her father in the storefront. While Kristina often works behind the scenes, it's common to see Ashley's children at the Kendallville RC Park. One of Ashley's three daughters frequently accompanies her and 'Papasaurus' (as Bailey recently dubbed him) to work, affectionately known as Boss Bailey. The other two daughters, Lexi (Lexisaurus) and Ashlynn (Diggy), also visit the park from time to time. Fred and Kristina's other children and grandchildren are often present as well.

With over 10 indoor and outdoor tracks and a full-service hobby shop, the Kendallville RC Park has something for everyone to enjoy. Our family is dedicated to creating great memories with all our customers, continually striving to maintain a family oriented and friendly environment that is essential to us, while providing opportunities for entertainment and quality RC products that will leave every customer highly satisfied.
