About Kendallville RC Park / KVRC Sales

Our History

The Kendallville RC Park is a family oriented RC Facility created by Fred and Kristina Strauss.

This business began initially as an auction centered business as Fred began looking for something to do to fill his time when he retired. He became an auctioneer just before an impending retirement from a decades long career with Harris Corporation, formerly ITT. To put it simply, Fred spent many years in a highly demanding managerial role as an Engineer working on satellites for NASA. He made many admirable achievements during his career, where he worked very closely with NASA. In turn, he worked many hours and was often times under high stress. He handled this well, but over decades it gave him a desire to continue working, but in a capacity that gave him time to enjoy the things he loved. He wanted a flexible schedule that allowed him to spend time with family and friends in a very family oriented environment.

Kristina Strauss has been at the forefront working hard on the first business the couple created, FNK Designs. Kristina has a background in computer science, and took the primary role in all the software and IT services required for the business. FNK Designs has many functions, but primarily focused and focuses on embroidery and hand-press decal apparel and accessories. FNK Designs is still in strong operation today. Some of the products are at the Kendallville on-site location.

Fred and Kristina decided to start their business Busy Beaver Lumber years after FNK Designs. For many years, even while Fred worked hard at Harris Corporation full-time and Kristina worked hard with the FNK Designs business, the couple invested their free time in building up Busy Beaver Lumber. They bought a sawmill and cut all their own wood to create bundles for various businesses and locations. They later started creating woodworking items, such as ice cream scoops, pizza cutters, cutting boards, duck calls, and much more. This business is still in strong operation today. They participate in fairs and festivals selling these products, such as the well known Johnny Appleseed festival. Many of these products are at the Kendallville on-site location.

At the beginning of KVRC, the business was actually not centered around RC vehicles at all. Fred and Kristina started off by doing auctions after Fred obtained his auctioneer's license. Then, some time later the couple purchased the property in Kendallville, IN to use as an auction building. When the property in Kendallville was purchased, they started taking down trees to harvest lumber for Busy Beaver Lumber. As land cleared, Fred started to think about what he could do with all of the space that was being cleared. He decided to invest into his love and passion for RC powered vehicles. Over time, and continually to this day the family continues to pour into this idea with passion as new courses are created, and more inventory is stocked for RC vehicles. The auction side of the business still exists and at the same location. You will find a large variety of products inside the same store including all RC products described in this website, but also antiques, toys, household items, and much more.

This is a family run business, with daughter Ashley now taking on a large role with her father in the storefront. You will see Kristina around, but she often is behind the scenes working her magic. It is a common occurrence to see Ashley's children with her at the Kendallville RC Park on-site location. Often times, one of Ashley's three daughters tags along with Mommy and Papa (Papasaurus as Bailey recently coined him) to work, and you will likely hear her affectionately referred to as Boss Bailey. Sometimes, Ashley's other two daughters, oldest, Lexi (Lexisaurus), and youngest, Ashlynn(Diggy), are also at the park. At any time, you will see Fred and Kristina's other children and grandchildren around as well.

Our Community

At our Kendallville RC Park, we believe that hobbies are more than just a pastime – they are a way of life. That's why we are dedicated to fostering a community of like-minded individuals who share our passion for hobbies. We host regular events and workshops to bring hobbyists together and provide opportunities for learning and growth.

We foster a family oriented environment often not found at other RC facilities.  We are certainly not the only place to enjoy running RC vehicles at, but we do think we are the most family oriented and most friendly facility in Northern Indiana. We want to get to know all of our customers and show care on a personal level, while still maintaining professionalism. We have several picnic tables in the park, along with an outdoor charcoal grill for your use. We also treat our guests to occasional free pancake breakfasts, or free lunch with a varying menu.
